ALTERATION

Image
By Esther Jeruto Koros (OSF) Alteration isn’t alteration in the sense of transformation I have come to learn, it’s simply a backward clasp A flaw in the mind’s grasp, Or just the blindness from the mundane. Upon sad unpunctual yet advanced interrogation, Emanates gradual peel of deception Emanating in effect Acclamation lobular with popular applauds Isn’t this why relics are desperately sought? And funerals wrought in praises? Oh! The mind’s laziness in seeking truth. © September 2020 0726179789

Entanglements

Image
By Sr. Esther Jeruto Koros (OSF) What great deception to claim immortality  When you know not the whenevers of eternity?    The author of life, reclaims his hive A total loss of the brawn-less thrive    Tough is the when, when the harvester’s bell rings The victim his transgression brings Engrossed in nuggets of entanglement, While the harvester seeks detachment. Christian by day, miscreant by night; Redrafting boundaries to suit momentary delights Bickering something so good, mustn’t be brittle Drenching and wading in interim fiddle-faddle Oh! May the harvester catch me untangled, For what misfortune to both worlds abdicate? © September 2020 0726179789

Siting on Gold

Image
By Sr. Esther Jeruto Koros (OSF)  ‘Make us proud,' they said, 'read all you can!' ‘Don’t fall into their niche,’ they warned! ‘Read the Bible too!’ They intoned.   The throng getting strewn, Filled with longing for the outcome: ‘To your graduation, we must come!’   Her feet paralyzed with euphoria, Beholding the affectionate campus towers ‘I made it here.’ She thought And she met mirrors that mocked her. Surveyed her want of things; Her relic outfit, her disheveled hair, alarming shoes   Instantly, unworthiness crept in She needed a quick fix, A complete metamorphosis Who would ford her urgent alterations? And it was lonely as a cloud And none to lean on.     She found someone competently whetted in crookedness, The tutorial commenced while she listened hesitantly: ‘Don’t be seen with bibles, makes you look ancient, Don’t walk stooped as though scared of tomorrow, Don’t be dressed like nuns, heaven is fict...

THE DELEGATES

Image
By Sr. Esther Jeruto Koros  There was a feast of pearls, way across the palms; We harvested the jewels, in huge incredible junks. Our identity was nacre, the cradle of lustre We sent our adept diver, who also was a driver An errand with ore, for cash it bore And our beloved Kimalany, is now held in felony For he found them feasting, and who wouldn’t want to eat?   We learnt of a king, who to us would bring And there was a list, of what the village missed; A dark road, snaked water, night time sun, These and many more, and a good school adjure We sent our honed nimrod, for a visit to Herod.     Our beloved Kimalel, now held in felony For he found them feasting, and who wouldn’t want to eat?   Acquainted with dejection, we bask in trepidation For who sends a child, hoping for a heist? Every betrayal hurts, but an heir’s deeply cuts. How rapacity dissolves values, and favour spells gallows We shall send again, for...

WHEREIN TO HALT

Image
Sr. Esther Jeruto Koros (OSF) And here comes the tale of three avaricious men Bonded in blood, bold in the ways of the world. Knowledgeable, capable yet untenable! Each outdoing themselves, in pursuit of the wind So they wallowed in discontent. For they knew not the brevity of their breath, And oblivious of the dangers of excesses For they knew not wherein to halt.   And so the elder brother, least gullible Like a dragnet, got drawn to the housing trade Buying and selling, building and rebuilding. At a point of no return, This like a prayer Was his wife and child and heaven and hell His lovely prison! He died wealthy For he knew not wherein to halt.   The second like the first held a bottle. From it, he tasted the delight of his life; Saccharine, irresistible ravishing. Gave him an immense culinary gratification Upon his fill, emerged an irascible human; Intrepid, valiant, audacious.   In a bout of rum, he drunk himself to...

HE HEARD THE POLITICIAN’S COIN

Image
By Sr. Esther Jeruto Koros (OSF)          There were voices:  Some w earisome, others awesome.  Ringing in his head’s ring round Alluringly lovely, lively seeking to be heard. Others dinky and mucky drove one away But these he didn’t hear.    There were some sounds too The Angelus bell, the beckoning swallow. The quarrelsome trees, tempestuous rivers The guttural engines, the fetid whiff The wiry smoke, the rushing motors Seeking a grin, entreating concession But these he didn’t hear.     Puzzling, isn’t it? How he opted to listen; Not to the Master but to the servant. His distantly vague gaze; Brightened at the sight Of cars glamorous and Porsche. Of outfits fair and handsome His countenance cheered by the jingling coins. Oh! These he heard, and keeps hearing Like Lazarus, he will live on the residues. Not looking the gift horse in the mouth, He's deafness contrived by means...

The World Was Silent When They Died

Image
By Sr. Esther Jeruto Koros (OSF) I bring to you the story, of those of whom we never worry           They were beings alive, oh! would that they could strive Crushed and ousted too soon, as though of no boon For the world was silent, when they all died   A massacre of its sort, a war silently fought When Venus was enticed, a new life emerged And the casualty only fetal, the owner’s hand turned fatal For the world was silent, when they all died     One side was shameful sneer, and the flip side was fear The shame and the fear merged, out an evil cohort matched Murders not avenged, murders not deserved For the world was silent, when they all died   Murder the silence I say, for it deafens as clay When the bans are needy, and the arms are ready Should God be lured, for the gift of life Never tempting fate, for the fruits we needn’t get     A keener ear we ask, that listens till dusk  ...
