I Believe in One Day

I believe in one day, a lengthy Christmas day 

I believe in one day, the best of days

I believe in one day, free of all dismay

I believe in one day, when faith won’t sway

I believe in one day, that day is forever.

 

When snakes won’t hide, when dogs won’t bite

When the deer male, will caress lion’s mane

When brutes and savages, are all ravaged

When danger is beyond recall, joy unfathomable to all

I believe in one day, that day is forever.

 

I believe in one day, when my muses will have faces

When metaphors of paradise, will need no guise

When utterances will be whimsical, and voices all musical

When love is the rule, and contentment absolute

I believe in one day, that day is forever.

 

I believe in one day, the day that knows no end

For such is the hope, I need to cope

For such is faith, grasp of the unseen

For such is love, the command of the dove

I believe in one day, flawlessly complete.

LAME AS ME

My Lord gazes profoundly, a hue of tenderness,           Usually our glances penetrate each other, I deeply gulp.  But this day, shame dwarfs my uncanniness, So that I come reluctant as a dirge I come anyways Lord, lame as me.  I might be filthy, swarmed in grit,  I might be distraught, burdened with regret, I might be violent, me judging me.  For not breaking the bad, but could I ? I come anyways Lord, lame as me.  Didn't you promise, where sin increases, Your grace does too, your highness? Rm 5:20 You have the means to unlock these chains, And free the sinner, burdened by pain.   So I come anyways Lord, lame as me.  For to whom else shall I go? You have the message of eternal life. BESTIE LET ME TELL YOU!

Dear Bestie, My memory belches unpleasant evocations strenuously entered into its reserves. I recall for instance, the snake bite of my aunt, how frightful it must have been for her. I recall my mother’s painful strokes, an astute testifier of using canes on kids, aha! I recall my athletic cousin who duped us into emptying our pockets, only to vanish in the prodigal son’s manner. I recall my step mother, locking up the corn stores so that we starved in my Dad’s absence. I recall my aunt’s disappearance after facing the sharp knife that would end her education. I recall the violence that erupted after one election period scattering us like frightened chicken. I recall these things;  I recall them with a remote lingering haziness that would rather be left alone. I recall these and more, I recall the decisions that emanated from these moments.
